Welcome to Online Business for Christian Creatives, the show that helps you build a business that honors God, fuels your creativity and actually pays the bills.
Speaker A:I'm your host, Jim Burgoon, leadership coach, Faith first entrepreneur, and a guy who's made just about every mistake so you don't have to let's get into it.
Speaker B:Welcome to Online Business for Christian Content Creators, where faith meets strategy and creativity becomes impact.
Speaker B:I'm your host, Jim Ragoon.
Speaker B:It's nice to virtually meet you.
Speaker B:And today we're going to be talking about something that could save you really years of frustration.
Speaker B:And because you've got a good business idea, you have one, it's burning in your heart.
Speaker B:You want to start this thing, you want to do this thing.
Speaker B:But the question that becomes is this business idea actually from God or is it just a good idea with Christian flawless flavoring?
Speaker B:Today we're going to unpack what the difference is, how to really tell, because here's the reality of this.
Speaker B:Half the businesses that are started fail within three to five years.
Speaker B:So we can't just settle on a good idea, clever idea.
Speaker B:We've got to settle on what is God leading us to and how can we go and get deeper into that and create something that God is already doing that's going to be successful, impactful and build the kingdom.
Speaker B:Let's walk through a four point spiritual checklist that's going to help us dive through and see is it good or is it God?
Speaker B:Now before we start, we want to anchor our episodes in scripture because this is why we're here, is to understand how God has us operating in business, what it means to be a Christian online.
Speaker B:Proverbs 3, 6, part of the very well known scripture and it says, in all of your ways, acknowledge him and he will direct your paths.
Speaker B:5 Before that says, Lean not on your own understanding, but in all your ways, acknowledge him and he will guide your path.
Speaker B:And the reality of this is this shouldn't be something that causes us to be afraid, hesitant to move, but what it should do is give us a rhythm with heaven that says when we acknowledge God in all of our ways and not lean on our own understanding and we follow him, he will show us the way to go.
Speaker B:That's how we start getting into the rhythm of heaven.
Speaker B:We acknowledge God not as part of our business, but the owner, CEO of the business and we are the stewards in God's business.
Speaker B:Because there's a huge difference between treating God as one of our employees or a business partner and having God as the head of an organization that he has us start.
Speaker B:So let's dive into this now.
Speaker B:This will unpack some things in multiple episodes over the course of the next few months.
Speaker B:So you're going to want to hit the follow button and let's have a conversation and start a relationship where we can unpack some of this.
Speaker B:But for today's purpose, we are going to be talking spiritual checklist.
Speaker B:Here is spiritual checklist number one.
Speaker B:Does it align with scripture and God's character?
Speaker B:Does it align with scripture or God's character?
Speaker B:The first thing we should always understand as Christians is that God never, and I will say it again, never contradicts his word.
Speaker B:If it contradicts the word, it is not of God.
Speaker B:I don't care how good or lucrative it is.
Speaker B:Your idea is you've got to ask yourself, do you want God's anointing and stamp on your business or do you just want to make the money and just call it God's blessing?
Speaker B:Because there's a big difference, my friend.
Speaker B:We want God's anointing because anointing is transformational.
Speaker B:It's longevity, it's generational, it causes things to change.
Speaker B:Whereas if you get just the good idea, not in God's blessing or just call it God's blessing, a lot of times that dries up and you're left to fight the consequences of of some shady stuff.
Speaker B:Because here's the thing, when you're not walking with God, we often operate in shady mechanics.
Speaker B:Think about online, how many people online, and I don't care if they're you.
Speaker B:We see this in Christianity.
Speaker B:We see this in regular cultural marketing, the shady marketing content.
Speaker B:We see this in manipulative funnels.
Speaker B:We see this in over promising and under delivering.
Speaker B:We see this in a lot of different things because all of this stuff lacks integrity and contradicts God's character.
Speaker B:So it's not of God.
Speaker B:So if it contradicts his word or his character is found in his word, we need to run far from it, no matter what it's going to make us.
Speaker B:Because I'm going to tell you, it's not worth it in the long run, in the end, because we have to put our heart where our leader is and follow after him where those things aren't going to rust.
Speaker B:We want to make sure that things are going to be eternal and they're going to cause impact for generations to come.
Speaker B:And you can't do that if you're not following him.
Speaker B:So is it biblical and does it follow his character?
Speaker B:And just think about this.
Speaker B:Proverbs 11.
Speaker B:3.
Speaker B:Honesty, right?
Speaker B:Honesty guides good people.
Speaker B:Dishonesty destroys people.
Speaker B:Let that sink in.
Speaker B:Honesty guides people.
Speaker B:Good people.
Speaker B:Dishonesty destroys treacherous people.
Speaker B: Proverbs: Speaker B:The Lord detests lying lips, but he delights in those that tell the truth.
Speaker B:Don't be shady.
Speaker B:Be integrity.
Speaker B:It may not allow you to cause a lot of money in the first end or a lot of business in the first part, but when people get a hold of your character and how that aligns with the Bible and what God's doing, you will have enough business coming in.
Speaker B:But you gotta trust, you gotta walk.
Speaker B:And always ask, does it align with God's character and does it align with Scripture?
Speaker B:Number two, do we have peace or are we striving?
Speaker B:So I like scriptures like Psalms 46, 10, right?
Speaker B:4610 really says this.
Speaker B:And let me read this for you because I don't mess this up, because I.
Speaker B:During two cuts, I completely messed this up.
Speaker B:So here's what it says.
Speaker B:Be still.
Speaker B:So that word there honestly means, stop striving and know that I am God and I will be exalted among the nations and I will be exalted among the earth.
Speaker B:So here's the thing.
Speaker B:We've got to really come back to this place of being still.
Speaker B:Striving is not of heaven.
Speaker B:Deep peace is not hype.
Speaker B:We have to have confidence, not hustle, not grind.
Speaker B:As in the cultural says.
Speaker B:I did an episode on the difference between what cultural hustling is and spiritual hustling.
Speaker B:You can catch that out as one of the previous episodes.
Speaker B:But here's the thing.
Speaker B:Because God is not a God of confusion.
Speaker B:God is not a God who lies.
Speaker B:We understand that confusion, chaos, constant hustle and things that rob you of rest is not of God.
Speaker B:It also mentions we have to have peace, and that doesn't mean absence of chaos.
Speaker B:I think we get a misunderstanding of what true peace is.
Speaker B:We think that peace means no chaos is happening.
Speaker B:No peace really is.
Speaker B:I have the confidence that God is going to come through in the midst of the storm.
Speaker B:We think back on Jesus.
Speaker B:Jesus in the storm got up and everybody around him's freaking out.
Speaker B:He said, peace, be still to the storm and the storm quick.
Speaker B:We have to get back to the places of stop trying to follow a feeling and start trying to follow God and what God is calling us to.
Speaker B:Peace.
Speaker B:Peace.
Speaker B:It means we have the confidence that he is acting even when everything around us is falling apart.
Speaker B:We have to have the confidence that God is on the move even when Everything seems like just crazy when life is going to life basically because that's what true peace is, moving in the middle of spiritual warfare.
Speaker B:Because you're not going to move towards God and not experience spiritual warfare.
Speaker B:That's a whole other thing.
Speaker B:We'll unpack at a different time too.
Speaker B:And we have this, but we have to, in the midst of spiritual warfare, we have to be supernaturally anchored to peace.
Speaker B:Who Christ is the prince of peace and gives us the peace that passes all understanding.
Speaker B:And that kind of peace the world can't fake.
Speaker B:We have so many people who are navigating anxieties both on a mental health level and just the stuff that we, we do to ourselves because we live in vain imaginations.
Speaker B:And all of them need to be dealt with compassion, with reality, with just we need to hug people who have anxiety, not judge them kind of thing.
Speaker B:I deal with some anxiety, you deal with anxiety.
Speaker B:And so this is also having compassion on ourselves and pulling us back to the place of saying, can I anchor myself in God?
Speaker B:Because God and Jesus, because that is where the reality is.
Speaker B:If I can anchor myself in the reality, I take myself out of the place of this vain imagination.
Speaker B:And we come in the midst of the warfare having complete confidence that Christ is going to do exactly what he said.
Speaker B: st Corinthians: Speaker B:You can go check them out for yourself and I highly recommend that you do.
Speaker B:I'm actually going to be posting a YouTube episode this week in conjunction with this on how to use chat GPT in order to do a deep in depth Bible study.
Speaker B:That link's going to be in the show notes and subscribe to the channel where we're going to dive deeper for things that aren't on the podcast.
Speaker B:And also you can watch the podcast visually video wise on YouTube as well.
Speaker B:So check number three, what's really driving you?
Speaker B:This is an agenda.
Speaker B:So we went from Bible, is it biblical?
Speaker B:Is it God's character?
Speaker B:We moved into more of do we have peace?
Speaker B:You know that feeling side of it.
Speaker B:Because God is the God of holistically all of us.
Speaker B:So we got to dive in it.
Speaker B:So now we're going deeper into the heart, which is what is your agenda?
Speaker B:What's driving you now?
Speaker B:This is one that's going to make us all uncomfortable because we got to ask some hard questions.
Speaker B:And the hard questions is does it glorify God, or does it glorify you?
Speaker B:Who are you glorifying?
Speaker B:What is your agenda?
Speaker B:Like, what is your real purpose?
Speaker B:And not the agenda that you've told yourself and convinced yourself in a Christian language that this is okay, but the true agenda underneath of what that we may be afraid to admit that we often hide what is really driving you.
Speaker B:And in this, and for you guys who are listening to this, if you hear some thunder, lightning, it just started pouring and my dog decided to come under the seat with me.
Speaker B:So if you hear a little commotion, it's because the dog got spooked and the lightning's pretty hard.
Speaker B:But let's continue the episode.
Speaker B:But here's the thing.
Speaker B:So is it what's driving underneath?
Speaker B:Are you trying to prove something to yourself because you've been through so much trauma, or are you serving someone in your content?
Speaker B:When you're content creating, when you're podcasting, when you're YouTubing, when you're coaching, when you're speaking, are you serving or are you trying to prove yourself?
Speaker B:Because anointing doesn't need to prove itself.
Speaker B:It just needs to walk into the room.
Speaker B:That's it.
Speaker B:So here's the thing.
Speaker B:Remember, if you're looking to partner with God, then we have to come into alignment with the heart of God through the word of God.
Speaker B:And if you're somebody who says, I don't need the Word, you already missed the plot.
Speaker B:We have to come back to the word of God to discover the heart of God.
Speaker B:And then we have to partner with the heart of God and move off of our agenda onto God's agenda so that we're going to what?
Speaker B:Do what he's called us to in the way that he's called us to.
Speaker B:And this takes some really hard conversations with yourself, challenging those parts of you that you've hidden, the part of you that is trying to prove, the part of you that's overthinking, the part of you that's afraid of rejection, the part of you that's afraid of success, and the part of you that's afraid to be seen, all of that has to be challenged in light of what is God's heart in the matter.
Speaker B:And here's a great anchor scripture for you.
Speaker B:I'm going to read this one because this is going to hit the heart of this point that we're talking about.
Speaker B:And that is Psalm 139, 23, 24.
Speaker B:And it says, search me, O God.
Speaker B:David is search me, O God, and know my heart.
Speaker B:Now, we know in Samuel That God says, I see the heart where God's, where man sees the outside, I see the heart, right?
Speaker B:But he says, search me and know me, oh God, know my heart and test me and know my anxious thoughts.
Speaker B:It's not saying we're going to be apart and never have anxiety, we're never going to have all this stuff, we're never going to have negative thoughts.
Speaker B:It's not what it is, but what it is.
Speaker B:It says, God, search me and help me find the thoughts and the roots of the thoughts so that when I have them, I can put them before you and we can deal with them.
Speaker B:That's the essence of what a lot of the Bible teaches.
Speaker B:And as a Christian content creator, podcast or YouTube, if you create content in any format from any stage, you're going to deal with overthinking, you're going to deal with these places of challenge.
Speaker B:But search me, oh God, and know me.
Speaker B:Let me know the agendas that I have versus the agendas that you want me to have and let me come into alignment as you heal those agendas that were caused from unhealed hurt, un unrealized expectations and just trauma that I never let go of.
Speaker B:So we've done three, three points and I'm going to bring into a fourth point and our fourth point is, what's the size of your faith?
Speaker B:Is it a God sized faith or is it just your grind?
Speaker B:I think this is over under emphasized in Christianity a lot of time because you see so many Christians out there and you don't know like they don't look different from the world.
Speaker B:You see the people out there hustle and grind, go get your bag.
Speaker B:And then you hear Christians who shroud the same thing in Christian language and they're like, let's get out into the holy hustle.
Speaker B:Let's get out into the grind and get the things that God has promised us.
Speaker B:And you know what you ask?
Speaker B:You've got to ask the honest question, how does that differ?
Speaker B:And it doesn't.
Speaker B:Because if you are somebody who is going to live a God sized faith, then you're then what God's asking you to do should scare you.
Speaker B:What God is asking you to do is going to not just be in your lifetime, but pass down to your children.
Speaker B:We look at that in Solomon and David, we look at that in Jacob, Isaac and Abraham.
Speaker B:We see that God is a generational God and whatever he's birthing in your heart is a generational business.
Speaker B:It's a generational thing.
Speaker B:And so we have to acknowledge that if we can do it in our time, at our pace, in our lifetime, it may not be God because it requires no faith.
Speaker B:It just requires us to hustle and grind.
Speaker B:And if it's human sized, then control, pride, predictability come in.
Speaker B:If it's God's size, this is limitless.
Speaker B:So let's get back to the places that says God, if my vision or actually if this is my vision, let's talk about that first and say God, my vision.
Speaker B:Is this truly my vision, Lord?
Speaker B:Or help me have your vision and in the midst of that expand the vision that you've given me to make it to where it scares me.
Speaker B:So I have to take each step by faith because I don't know how it's going to go.
Speaker B:Now we do understand that if you can do it all, it's not God.
Speaker B:So let's ask God to expand that, let's ask God to increase that.
Speaker B:Let's ask God to do the things that only God can do in our lifetime so that we can do the things that he's calling to, calling us to because he's empowered us.
Speaker B:And I want to take a minute here.
Speaker B:We just did four checkpoints and I want to take a minute and I've got a full eight point checklist that I would love to give to you.
Speaker B:It's going to be on my newsletter called the Wisdom Dispatch and it's at www.leadwithjim.com forward/nl for newsletter.
Speaker B:Go figure.
Speaker B:So with that being said, it's in the show notes.
Speaker B:Go ahead and click it.
Speaker B:The Wisdoms Dispatch is a weekly newsletter that is behind the scenes, some extra thoughts, some bible study stuff, things that you're not going to find on the episode or on the YouTube channel.
Speaker B:It's only content subscriptions or subscribers only.
Speaker B:It's a free newsletter so go ahead and sign up.
Speaker B:But it's only going to be information given to you guys who are on the Dispatch list and I will have a 8 point PDF for you to have those things to go through as an entrepreneur every time you want to check is this a good idea or is this a God idea?
Speaker B:And these are things, like I said, that you won't find in the episode.
Speaker B:But with that being said, let me tell you one of my own stories because I have plenty of times where I have messed up and missed God and I probably have more stories than I like to tell.
Speaker B:But I'm going to tell you this one.
Speaker B:So let's get pull back the curtain a little bit and let's be real on where God's brought me from.
Speaker B:And I remember when I was going into the John Maxwell team because I'm a certified leadership development coach, certified disc personality profiler through the John Maxwell team.
Speaker B:But when I joined the John Maxwell team, I wanted to be a speaker.
Speaker B:By the way, I feel that God's gifted me as a speaker.
Speaker B:I've been on stages for 15 to 20 years.
Speaker B:A communicator.
Speaker B:Not just a speaker, but a communicator.
Speaker B:And that goes into writing and everything else I do.
Speaker B:And here's the thing.
Speaker B:So I call them up and I'm excited.
Speaker B:I'm like, yeah, this is cool.
Speaker B:I've got my master's degree, leadership development.
Speaker B:I'm a leadership coach, been this way for 20 years, and now I'm going to get certified.
Speaker B:You ever have those really cool excitement moments?
Speaker B:And so I call them up and say, hey, listen, I want to do your speaking track.
Speaker B:I want to be part of the speakers because that's what I love.
Speaker B:It's a gift.
Speaker B:Let me do that.
Speaker B:And they said to me, and this is where it's going to be on me for not going through my own checklist.
Speaker B:And a lot.
Speaker B:Where a lot of this came from.
Speaker B:And they said, you should probably do the coaching route because the coaching is where all the money is.
Speaker B:And in the.
Speaker B:At the time, this was a while ago, so at the time, my wife was in a fit of depression.
Speaker B:My wife deals with mental health issues we've talked about on multiple podcasts.
Speaker B:Podcast.
Speaker B:We will talk about it on this podcast at some point.
Speaker B:But she was in a really tough place.
Speaker B:I was in a real tough place physically.
Speaker B:And a lot of things were going on and it was like life was hot.
Speaker B:Was lifeing really hard?
Speaker B:Did you ever get into those points where it's lifeing so hard you just say, okay, this is a great idea.
Speaker B:Let me make some money.
Speaker B:Let's go.
Speaker B:And so I joined the coaching program and not the speaking program because I'm like, I'm a good coach.
Speaker B:I'm a prior pastor.
Speaker B:I taught middle school, high school, so I could coach, I could do this.
Speaker B:And I made money.
Speaker B:I made money as a coach.
Speaker B:But 18 months into it, the coaching started drying up.
Speaker B:And I was like, God, what.
Speaker B:What's going on?
Speaker B:And this is where the Holy Spirit spoke to my heart, put it on my heart.
Speaker B:And he said to me this, he said, Jim, 18 months ago, when you signed up to be a coach, he says, you never bothered to ask me.
Speaker B:You thought it was a great idea because of everything you were going through, and this was a way out of what you were going through.
Speaker B:But you never asked me.
Speaker B:So you spent 18 months building the wrong business.
Speaker B:And I was like, oh.
Speaker B:And I was like, oh, God, you know, and I wanted to cry and wanted.
Speaker B:But I repented and I'm so sorry.
Speaker B:He's.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:He says you're a great coach, but you're anointed speaker.
Speaker B:He says they're not the same.
Speaker B:He says, I was going to fill your coaching through your speaking.
Speaker B:He says there was going to be doors open for you speaking and getting on stages, and your coaching program would have never run dry.
Speaker B:He says, but your coaching program is dry because you built the wrong business because you never bothered to ask me in the first place.
Speaker B:And if you could be one of those moments where you're like, oh, my gosh, that was that moment.
Speaker B:It was where I followed the good idea instead of checking if this was a God idea.
Speaker B:And because of life lifing, instead of going after what God wanted for me, I spent almost two years of my life building the wrong things that eventually dried up.
Speaker B:And me at that time trying to build something else and really trying to dive deep into what God had for me.
Speaker B:And it was like.
Speaker B:It was a hard place to recover from.
Speaker B:Recover I did, but it was a hard place to recover from.
Speaker B:So don't do that.
Speaker B:Don't do what I did.
Speaker B:Follow the checklist.
Speaker B:Let me just give you a quick overview of the checklist real quick.
Speaker B:Four points.
Speaker B:Scripture and character.
Speaker B:Number two, Peace and striving motives and faith, dependency.
Speaker B:Get those in line and then get on the newsletter and get all eight of them.
Speaker B:But you get those in line, at least those four.
Speaker B:And I will tell you, it will put you on the right path.
Speaker B:And you can evaluate every idea that you have and say, God, is this a God idea or is this a good idea?
Speaker B:And so what I want you to do as a challenge for this week, pull out your journals.
Speaker B:Because we believe in journals on the show.
Speaker B:Take 30 minutes with God this week.
Speaker B:Just any 30 minutes.
Speaker B:You can do five a day, or you can do 30 all at once and journal through those four checkpoints.
Speaker B:To start with that the ideas that you have are that you're sitting on, that you have books of.
Speaker B:Are.
Speaker B:Are they God ideas?
Speaker B:Ask them.
Speaker B:Highlight for me which ones are from you.
Speaker B:God, and what is just distraction, because if the devil can't take you out, he's going to distract you and derail you.
Speaker B:So we understand God.
Speaker B:What are these?
Speaker B:What of these are distractions?
Speaker B:And what are these of you go through each idea individually and ask the Holy Spirit to illuminate, give you revelation on each one.
Speaker B:Do that for 30 minutes.
Speaker B:And I and then what I want you to do is hit me an email, go on my newsletter, hit reply and tell me you did that and then tell me how it turned out, because I want to hear some testimonies, but because I truly believe God is going to speak to you on deeper levels and you're going to find you're going to be in such a more fulfilled place doing what God's called you to do.
Speaker B:This message actually came to me.
Speaker B:This whole thing came for me in a season where I was imploding internally, looking for external things like that coaching.
Speaker B:And so I was willing to not ask God because I asked for forgiveness and permission.
Speaker B:You ever do those things?
Speaker B:I was willing to forego asking God for the lore of making sure that I was comfortable taking care of my family, was taken care of, we were able to pay the medical bills and all that stuff.
Speaker B:And ultimately I ended up in a worse place.
Speaker B:And this is where this checklist started coming and birthing in as we go through.
Speaker B:And we said, hey God, this you or is not you?
Speaker B:And this is and actually it was during this time where my wife and I started saying one of the four or five mantras in our house is whatever God wants, God gets.
Speaker B:So we started asking first, God, what do you want in this?
Speaker B:And then we say, okay, let's give it to him.
Speaker B:And that we don't always do that.
Speaker B:Like we, we try to do it as much as we can, we miss the bar.
Speaker B:But every time we try to put God first and say, God, whatever you want, you get, tell us what you want.
Speaker B:Then it comes into prayer and we do miss it, but more often than not we get it.
Speaker B:So with that being said, as we shut down this episode, I just, as I always already said, if you want to hit up on the Wisdom dispatch www.leadwithjim.com forward/nl for newsletter and this is where we're going to go into those behind the stories in depth things to help you grow in wisdom and stature with God and with men so that you can get out there and do all God's called you to.
Speaker B:And if you feel so inclined and you want to support this show, there's a couple ways to support the show.
Speaker B:Whatever platform you're listening on, go ahead and hit the subscribe, send a comment, write a review, do the things.
Speaker B:And then here's what I here's the last thing.
Speaker B:If there's a person in your life that you say this guy or this woman or this kid or whoever could benefit from this episode, go ahead and share the share that with them.
Speaker B:Because here's the deal.
Speaker B:This is about serving you and pushing forward the Kingdom of God.
Speaker B:So if we can make sure this words and stuff like this get inside the hearts of people and let them see what God is doing and how God can change their life and build the calling that God has put on their life, then it's a win win for every single person.
Speaker B:And with that being said, I said I'm just going to say go and blessing of the Lord.
Speaker B:May the Holy Spirit give you revelation, knowledge and wisdom.
Speaker B:May he reveal to you the things that you're supposed to be doing while also revealing the distractions the enemy has placed there.
Speaker B:And then I would also pray that the Lord give you time, a timetable on when to do it, also how to do it and when to step in all of those things that he's doing for you.
Speaker B:And I'll just pray that in Jesus name.
Speaker B:And with that being said, thanks for listening in on the episode, thanks for hanging out and thanks for having the conversation.
